Around 800 local and foreign participants took part in the ‘Egiye Bangladesh’ marathon held at Hatirjheel in the capital on Friday (July 4).
Buy Digital in collaboration with Run Bangladesh organized the event.
The marathon featured two race categories: 7.5 kilometers and 15 kilometers, starting from the amphitheater in front of Police Plaza.
Runners of all ages, both men and women, filled the scenic Hatirjheel area in a celebration of health and fitness.
Organizers said the main aim of the event was to promote a healthy lifestyle among Dhaka residents and to inspire youth to embrace walking and running as part of daily life.
For the first time, the marathon route in Hatirjheel was run in an anti-clockwise direction.
It also marked a technological milestone as it was the first sporting event in Bangladesh to use RBAN Timing Solutions, allowing participants to instantly view their results upon crossing the finish line.
All participants received finisher medals, while the top performers were awarded crests and cash prizes in recognition of their achievements.
The event drew praise for its organization and for promoting fitness in one of Dhaka’s most iconic urban spaces.
