Bashundhara Kings lifted their fourth Federation Cup title after edging Abahani Limited 5-4 in a dramatic tiebreaker following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
However, the last 15 minutes of extra time were postponed due to poor lighting and resumed a week later. Kings, down to 10 men, showed great resilience in the remaining minutes, holding off repeated Abahani attacks.
With the match still level after extra time, the title was decided in a penalty shootout. Kings' goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Shrabon emerged as the hero, stopping a crucial shot from Emeka. Kings' scorers in the tiebreaker included Jonathan Fernandez, Mohammad Morsalin, Tapu Barman, Insan Ali, and Brazilian forward Dceil, who netted the winning kick.
Abahani’s Rafael Augusto, Sabuj, and Mirajul Islam also scored, though controversy arose when Mirajul's initial miss was ordered to be retaken by the referee, who ruled that Shrabon had moved off his line. The second attempt was successful.
Despite the drama, Kings sealed a sweet revenge. In an earlier qualifying match, Abahani had beaten Kings in a shootout with 10 men. This time, the tables turned as 10-man Kings triumphed in the final.
Kings coach Valery Tițe kept his faith in Shrabon under the bar, a decision that paid off. The goalkeeper’s performance, especially the save against Emeka, proved decisive in securing the title.
