India secured a commanding 44-run victory over New Zealand in their final group-stage encounter of the Champions Trophy, booking a semi-final showdown against Australia.

Chasing a target of 250 on a sluggish Dubai pitch, New Zealand fell short, managing only 205 before being bowled out. India's spinners delivered a clinical performance, with Varun Chakravarthy starring with figures of 5-42.

Despite Kane Williamson’s resilient 81, the mounting required run rate proved too much for the Black Caps. A late collapse saw their last seven wickets tumble for just 72 runs, sealing their defeat.

India, having opted to play all their matches in Dubai instead of traveling to Pakistan, will now take on Steve Smith’s Australian side in the first semi-final on Tuesday. Meanwhile, New Zealand, who had already secured qualification before this fixture, will face South Africa in Lahore on Wednesday.

Earlier, India’s batting lineup also faced challenges, slipping to 30-3. Glenn Phillips pulled off a spectacular catch at point to dismiss Virat Kohli for just 11. However, a composed 98-run partnership between Axar Patel and Shreyas Iyer (top-scoring with 79) steadied the innings. Hardik Pandya’s brisk 45 off 45 balls further propelled India to a competitive total.

New Zealand’s bowlers, particularly Matt Henry, impressed, with the seamer claiming 5-42. Their fielding effort was also commendable, but India’s spinners proved decisive on a pitch expected to host the final—should they make it.
