Heavy rainfall is expected in three divisions of Bangladesh, while other regions may experience light to moderate showers, according to a weather forecast issued on Tuesday (August 26).

Meteorologist Khandaker Hafizur Rahman said a low-pressure area has developed over coastal West Bengal and Odisha in the northwest Bay of Bengal. 

The extension of the monsoon trough stretches across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, the low-pressure centre, and through southern Bangladesh into Assam. 

The monsoon is moderately active over Bangladesh and fairly strong over the north Bay of Bengal.

The forecast, valid until Wednesday morning (August 27), said that many areas of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, and parts of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds. 

Moderate to heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions. Daytime temperatures may rise slightly, while nighttime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

For the 24-hour period starting Wednesday morning, the forecast added that light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds could occur in parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, as well as at a few places in Rajshahi, Khulna, and Dhaka divisions. 

Moderate to heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated locations across the country. Day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly steady. Heavy rainfall may continue in the following three days, the bulletin said.
