2 die as six buses crash in Gopalganj

Two people, including a police officer, were killed and at least 20 others injured in a collision after six buses in front of Gopinathpur police outpost in Gopalganj Sadar upazila.

The accident occurred around 2:30am on Sunday (June 15) on the Dhaka-Khulna highway.

The deceased were identified as Rafiquzzaman, an assistant sub-inspector (ATSI) of Bhatiapara Highway Police, and Selim Hossain Bepari, a bus helper. Selim was the son of Abdul Hamid Bepari from Deben Babu Road in Sonadanga, Khulna.

The identities of the injured were not immediately available.

Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Mohammad Sajedur Rahman confirmed the matter.

He said police, army, and fire service personnel rushed to the scene after being informed and rescued the injured. They were sent to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital for treatment.

Traffic on the highway resumed after two hours once the damaged vehicles were removed, he added.
