Ex-vice principal hacked to death; police search for 2 suspects

Police are investigating the murder of former vice-principal of Habibullah Bahar University College, Saifur Rahman Bhuiyan, who was found dead in a rented flat in the capital’s Uttarkhan area.

A case is being processed, and authorities are searching for two individuals—a man and a woman—who went missing from the residence two days before the incident.

Uttarkhan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ziaur Rahman confirmed the matter to Banglanews around 1:30 am on Tuesday (March 11).

Saifur Rahman Bhuiyan, 50, was hacked to death in the early hours of Monday in a flat in the Puran Para area of Uttarkhan Mazar Road. His bloodied body was later recovered from Lake View Hospital in the afternoon.

Following legal procedures, the body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Zahidul Hasan of Uttarkhan Police Station said officers responded to the incident and found multiple stab wounds on the victim’s face and body. Initial findings suggest he had been living alone in the flat for the past six months.

Local residents took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead, he added.

OC Ziaur Rahman said police had obtained documents indicating that Bhuiyan had been suspended from his position at the college. He reportedly had little contact with his wife and children, who reside in the Shantinagar area of Dhaka.

Two individuals—a young man and a woman—had been staying as guests at Bhuiyan’s residence two days before the murder. They have been missing since the incident, and police believe they may be involved in the crime.

The investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been made so far, said the OC.
