CA to inform world about Bangladesh's next polls: Shafiqul Alam Shah Rukh Khan gets National Award for 'Jawan'

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today said that Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, during his ongoing visit to the United States, will inform the world about Bangladesh’s next general elections, scheduled for the first half of February next year.

“Of course, the next general elections will be held in the first half of February,” Alam told reporters while briefing them in New York on the outcomes of the second day of the chief adviser’s visit.

Yunus is set to address the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 26. In his speech, he will share details of the reforms implemented by the interim government over the past 14 months, the recovery of the country’s economy, and steps taken for Bangladesh’s democratic transition.

“The main message is that a fundamental election is going to be held within February 15. It will be a free, fair, peaceful, credible, and festive one,” Alam said, adding that world leaders have already assured full support for Bangladesh’s polls.

Referring to the recent DUCSU and JUCSU elections, he said that the people of Bangladesh will be able to cast their votes freely in the upcoming general elections.

The press secretary further said Muhammad Yunus, in his UNGA address, will also highlight the government’s initiatives, election preparations, the Rohingya issue, and progress in trials of key cases.

On political engagement, Alam said that the interim government has maintained communication with parties and is not distancing itself from them.

Commenting on the Awami League, he alleged that during its 15-year rule, the party was involved in killings, disappearances, and filing false cases against thousands of people.

“See now where is their position… now they have no friends,” he added.
