The medical board overseeing the treatment of Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has decided to move him from the intensive care unit (ICU) to a cabin as his condition continues to improve.

Brigadier General Mohammad Asaduzzaman, director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, told reporters on Monday morning (Sept 1) that Nur’s health was steadily progressing and that departmental heads were closely monitoring his recovery.

He said it would take four to six weeks for Nur’s nose and jaw bones to heal completely, while blood clots in his eye were expected to clear within one to two weeks.

“He has been advised to take normal food, though he still experiences pain while eating. This will gradually improve,” Asaduzzaman said.

He added that some blood from earlier nasal bleeding had entered his respiratory tract and was coughed up twice on Sunday, but assured that it was not a cause for concern.

Nur was seriously injured on Friday night (August 29) when law enforcement personnel allegedly baton-charged during clashes between the Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad.

He was initially taken to Islami Bank Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s ICU, where he has been under observation since.
