Nur’s condition improving, say doctors Nurul Haque Nur

Nurul Haque Nur, President of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, is showing signs of improvement following injuries sustained during recent political unrest, doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital said on Sunday (August 31).

Dr Md Mostaq Ahmed, resident surgeon of the hospital’s emergency department, confirmed that Nur’s health was gradually stabilising. “His condition is improving compared to earlier.

He has four major injuries — a fractured nasal bone, a fractured jaw, an eye injury, and bleeding in the brain. The bleeding is gradually subsiding,” he told reporters.

The doctor added that Nur’s sodium deficiency had been corrected, he was now able to eat by mouth, and his catheter had been removed. “At present, his overall condition is stable. A six-member medical board is supervising his treatment,” he said.

Nur was admitted to the emergency unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 11:20pm on Friday (August 29). He was brought in with heavy bleeding and nasal bandages, before being transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Earlier that evening, clashes broke out between members of the Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad in Bijoynagar, during which law enforcement intervened with baton charges. Nur and several other activists were severely injured.

He was first taken to Islami Bank Hospital before being shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s ICU for further treatment.
