Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD)-backed Abid-Hamim-Mayed Parishad today unveiled a 10-point manifesto with 65 pledges ahead of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, slated for September 9.
The panel’s vice-president candidate, Abidul Islam Khan, announced the manifesto at a programme held in front of the Arts Building on the Dhaka University campus at noon.
The manifesto prioritizes education, research, safety, inclusivity, and modernization to create a student-friendly campus. It promises to ensure a secure environment and comprehensive healthcare for female students by establishing healthcare units in every hall, appointing female doctors at the medical center, removing restricted entry hours, and ensuring freedom of dress.
Other commitments include expanding quality medical services with health insurance, modernizing the university medical center with round-the-clock doctors, ambulance facilities, and free essential medicines. The panel pledged to modernize the curriculum and research system through regular reviews, opportunities for credit transfer, and digitization of the central library.
Transport reforms such as introducing regulated shuttle services and new bus routes were also highlighted. The manifesto further calls for harassment-free administrative services, greater transparency, expansion of student loans and employment opportunities, and increased scholarships for meritorious students.
To enrich campus life, the panel pledged to promote cultural and sporting activities, organize Olympiads, and provide digital skills training, alongside enhancing cyber security. It also promised to eliminate the “Guestroom-Gono Room” culture, end forced political programmes, and free the campus from terrorism, repression, and illegal occupation.
New residential halls will be constructed to ensure “one seat and one study table” for each student from admission, while food quality in canteens and cafeterias will be strictly monitored with subsidies increased. Environmental protection and the development of an animal-friendly campus also feature in the pledges.
The panel vowed to enhance Dhaka University’s global standing by establishing funds to support students’ participation in international Olympiads, symposiums, seminars, and exchange programs.
Abidul Islam Khan said the manifesto reflects the long-cherished demands of students and their aspirations for a modern, safe, and inclusive university.
