BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed heartfelt thanks to Chief Adviser (CA) Professor Muhammad Yunus, members of the Advisory Council, and all concerned of the interim government for taking necessary steps and initiatives to smoothen the path of democracy despite various adversities over the past year.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir conveyed the message during a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital on Wednesday (August 6).
He said the BNP welcomes the declaration made during the London meeting between Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, in which February 2026 was announced as the time for the next general election.
BNP believes this historic announcement will help resolve the ongoing political stalemate in Bangladesh and ease the transition to democracy, he said.
BNP believes the government and the Election Commission will take all necessary measures to ensure that the upcoming election is free, fair, impartial and acceptable to all.
Mirza Fakhrul further said BNP pays respect to those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for democracy, expresses sympathy and prayers for those injured, and urges the government to ensure proper rehabilitation and treatment for the families of the martyrs.
