Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the historic July Declaration marks a turning point in Bangladesh’s political landscape and will pave the way for the restoration of democracy.
Speaking at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Wednesday (August 6), Fakhrul welcomed both the declaration and the timeline announced for the upcoming national elections.
“The BNP believes this declaration will help resolve the ongoing political stalemate and create a smoother path towards democratic transition,” he said.
Fakhrul expressed optimism that the government and the Election Commission would take the necessary steps to ensure that the upcoming election is free, fair, impartial, and acceptable to all stakeholders.
Calling for national unity, the BNP leader urged all political parties and citizens to engage in the electoral process, with the shared goal of institutionalising democracy and forming a functional and representative parliament.
Fakhrul said, “The commitments made by political parties in the July Declaration must be fulfilled to lay the foundation for a new democratic Bangladesh. It opens up the possibility of building a truly progressive and prosperous nation based on equality, human values, and justice.”
He also expressed his deep gratitude to the political parties, students, farmers, workers, and ordinary citizens who participated in the recent movement, paying tribute to those who were killed, injured, or disabled in the struggle.
