BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the opportunity has come to rebuild a new Bangladesh.
He made the remark on Sunday (August 3) while speaking at a student rally organised in Shahbagh of the capital.
The rally was arranged by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal as part of its month-long programme marking the anniversary of the July-August mass uprising.
Mirza Fakhrul said, a new opportunity has been created for us to rebuild Bangladesh. Youths from across the country have gathered here. This is a day of great joy. At the same time, it is a day of pain. On this day last year, the Awami League was killing people of our country.
Referring to the uprising, he said, it was not only a 36-day movement, rather our leaders and activists have sacrificed their lives over the past 16 years to see Bangladesh as a beautiful and livable homeland.
Calling for unity, he said, many efforts are being made to divide us. Our neighbouring country has given shelter to Sheikh Hasina. From there, threats are being issued from time to time. They are trying to destabilise the country. We will never allow fascist Sheikh Hasina to do politics in Bangladesh.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman joined the rally virtually from London as the chief guest.
The programme was presided over by Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and conducted by General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.
