BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has reiterated the party’s commitment to fully implement the July Charter, expressing hope that the document will be formally signed soon.
“We have pledged to implement the July Charter. We expect the signing to take place in the near future,” he told reporters on Friday (August 1), following a courtesy meeting at Darul Ulum Madrasa in Hathazari, Chattogram.
Madrasa’s chief Sheikh Ahmed and Director General Mufti Khalil Ahmed Qasemi were also present at the meeting.
Salahuddin said BNP has no objections to the vast majority of the 826 proposals made by the National Consensus Committee.
“There are only 51 proposals where BNP has provided some observations. The rest are agreed upon,” he said, adding that nearly all necessary procedures for implementing the July Charter have already been completed.
BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan, who was also present, said the next general election could be arranged by February if the government issues a clear announcement soon.
