JCD moves Aug 3 rally to Shahbagh following NCP’s request

Jatiyotabadi Chatrodol (JCD) has decided to relocate its upcoming student rally to Shahbagh on Sunday (August 3), moving it from the Central Shaheed Minar following a request by the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP).

The announcement was made by JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib at a press conference held at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan on Wednesday (July 30).

Rakib said the rally was originally scheduled at the Shaheed Minar as part of JCD’s month-long programme to commemorate the July Mass Uprising.

However, NCP later expressed their intention to hold a rally at the same venue on the same day.

Following repeated personal and formal requests from NCP leaders to both JCD and senior BNP leaders, the student wing decided to change the venue in the spirit of political tolerance and democratic coexistence.

“It’s unfortunate and difficult to shift the programme after all preparations have been made. We had chosen Shaheed Minar to avoid public inconvenience on a working day and because we announced the programme first with official permission,” Rakib added.

Despite having a legitimate claim to the original venue, JCD decided to honor NCP’s request as a gesture of political goodwill.

Rakib further said, “Our August 3 rally will now be held at Shahbagh instead of Shaheed Minar. We apologize in advance to city dwellers for any inconvenience this may cause and hope they understand the significance of the day and our cooperative stance.”
