A Dhaka court today acquitted BNP Joint Secretary General Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), citing the prosecution's failure to prove the charges.

Judge Md Zakaria Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 delivered the verdict, confirmed court clerk Zahidur Rahman.

The verdict came after both the prosecution and defence completed their arguments on July 16.

The ACC filed the case against Anee with Ramna Police Station on October 9, 2014. Then ACC Deputy Director Md Manjur Morshed had accused him of concealing wealth information worth Tk 13.13 lakh and illegally amassing Tk 1.40 crore.

Charges were framed against Anee on May 24, 2016, and the court recorded testimonies from nine prosecution witnesses during the trial.
