Hasina a disgrace to humanity, nation won't forgive: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday (July 20) branded ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a “disgrace to humanity,” citing enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and alleged mass atrocities during her tenure.

He said, “During her rule, enforced disappearances, killings, and even massacres occurred. Sheikh Hasina is a disgrace to humanity—this nation will not forgive her.”

He made the remarks while addressing a tree plantation programme at the capital’s Zia Udyan, jointly organised by the BNP-affiliated Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal and Amra BNP Poribar.

Referring to the sacrifices made during the recent popular uprising, the BNP leader said, “Students and citizens declared their resolve and gave their lives to establish a free and democratic state. It is now BNP’s mission to build a truly liberal democratic country—free from corruption, bribery, killings, and repression—where people can live with freedom and dignity.”

He added that BNP will create a special fund to support and rehabilitate the families of those killed or injured during the July-August unrest.

Speaking on the upcoming election, Fakhrul expressed hope that the interim government would deliver on its promise of holding a credible national election.

Addressing the party’s political stance moving forward, he noted that BNP aspires to build a “rainbow nation” inclusive of all political beliefs, reaffirming the party’s commitment to pluralism and participatory democracy.
