Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has formed a preparatory committee to organize a discussion and tribute program on July 19 to mark the contributions of students and teachers of private universities during July uprising.
In a press release, issued on Friday (July 4) from the party’s central office, BNP said the initiative is part of its programs marking the anniversary of the July-August mass uprising, mourning and victory.
Professor Dr Md Toifiqul Islam (Mithil) has been made the convener of the 15-member committee, while Omar Sharif Md Imran (Saniyat) will serve as the member secretary.
The other members of the committee are Professor Dr Shibli Ahmed Khan, Professor Dr Ramit Azad, Dr B M Sazzat Hossain, Dr Mofizul Alam Khan, Professor Dr Asaduzzaman, Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman, K M Nazmul Haque, Md Abu Hurayra, M Rajibul Islam Talukdar (Bindu), Md Shakil Ahmed, Md Risalat Islam Sajib, Md Nur Hossain and Zahirul Haq Saimun.
The press release was signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
K M Nazmul Haque, a member of the preparatory committee formed to organize a discussion and tribute program for private university students and teachers, and a former student of a private university, said that private university students and teachers played a pivotal role in the July-August mass uprising. Despite fear and repression, they stood at the frontlines and helped bring down the autocratic Hasina regime.
“This initiative will help preserve and honour their invaluable contributions,” he added.
