Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Friday said that a fair election is only possible if necessary reforms are implemented first.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters at Saidpur Airport in Nilphamari around noon before heading to Rangpur to attend a public rally scheduled for 3:00pm.
“We must create the right environment before going for elections. The demand for reforms has come to ensure that environment,” he said.
He said, “If basic reforms are implemented properly, inshallah, we will have a good election. There is no room for doubt.”
Dr. Rahman added, “Reforms are essential, and a fair election must be held with participation from all parties so that it is acceptable to everyone.”
He also said that Jamaat-e-Islami has always opposed violence and mob politics.
“We have been against such politics since 1972. Jamaat has no connection to mob actions. You will not find any of our activists involved in such incidents anywhere,” he said.
Following the press briefing, the Jamaat chief left for Rangpur to attend the rally.
