Nasir Uddin Patwari demands ban on AL politics

Nasir Uddin Patwari, Chief Coordinator of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has demanded a complete ban on the political activities of the Awami League, accusing the party of past violence and alleging it represents “Mujibist forces” rejected by the people.

He made the remarks while addressing a protest rally organized by the Dhaka city unit of the NCP in front of the south gate of Baitul Mukarram Mosque on Friday.

The protest was held demanding the trial of what the party called “genocidal crimes” committed by the Awami League.

“The student and youth of Bangladesh have shown the Mujibist family the way to Delhi. As long as 180 million people live in this country, no Mujibist or Awami League-named force will be allowed to exist in Bangladesh,” Patwari said.

He also claimed that the people's verdict on August 5 had already settled the political fate of the Awami League, and questioned why the implementation of that outcome was still pending.

Patwari further criticized the 1972 constitution, calling it a “Mujibist constitution” and an “extension of India,” and said the party would resist any attempt by the Awami League to return to power as long as such a framework remains in place.

There was no immediate reaction from the Awami League on his comments.
