BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has once again called on the interim government to announce a clear roadmap for the next national election.
He made the remarks while joining virtually an event marking the fifth founding anniversary of Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party held at the National Press Club on Friday.
“I urge the interim government again to clearly announce a roadmap for the national election,” he said.
Tarique said that if an accountable parliament and government are formed through people’s votes, the country’s independence and sovereignty will be strengthened.
“The interim government must take steps to bring political parties before the people’s court,” he said.
He said that when a culture of forming and changing governments through people’s votes and political practice is established, no force will be able to turn Bangladesh into a subservient state.
Welcoming the emergence of new political parties following the fall of what he termed “fascist rule,” Tarique said democratic parties may differ in ideology, but their stance for the country should be united.
“Our goal and destination are the same — to protect the country’s interest and ensure people’s welfare,” he added.
