The Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) has announced plans to form a disciplinary and investigation committee to look into allegations of anti-organisational conduct by some of its leaders and activists.
The committee is set to be formally announced on Sunday, April 20.
The decision was taken during the party's third general meeting held at Rupayan Tower in Dhaka’s Bangla Motor on Friday, April 18.
The decision was made in a statement issued by the party’s joint member secretary Saleh Uddin Sifat.
Chaired by NCP convener Nahid Islam and moderated by member secretary Akhtar Hossain, the meeting began at 3pm with a condolence message following the death of the mother of central organiser Khairul Kabir. It lasted nearly eight hours.
The meeting covered a range of organisational and political issues, including proposals for structural reforms, regional policy planning, and mobilising protests.
It also reiterated demands for the trial of the ruling Awami League over alleged genocide, elections to a Constituent Assembly, an end to border killings, and relief for citizens facing rising commodity prices.
The NCP expressed solidarity with Palestinians under Israeli attack in Gaza and lent support to protests in India against the controversial Waqf Bill.
To enhance grassroots organisation, the party approved a plan to divide the country into 19 zones across 64 districts. New guidelines stipulate that district committees will comprise 31 to 51 members, while upazila committees will have between 21 and 41. Conveners at both levels must be at least 40 years old.
The meeting concluded with a decision to stage a protest in Dhaka this week, calling for justice, systemic reform, and elections to a Constituent Assembly.
