BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said there should be no opportunity to rehabilitate the allies of fugitive dictators.

Speaking virtually from London at an Iftar event in Dhaka’s Eskaton on Friday, he said some groups are trying to pit election and reforms against each other for political purposes. 

Later, Tarique Rahman said that reforms are a continuous process and should not be considered complete before holding national elections.

Tarique alleged that past amendments turned the constitution into a partisan tool for former autocratic rulers. 

He emphasized that practical democratic rights and practices are more important than theoretical reforms. 

However, Tarique Rahman also warned that holding local elections before national polls could allow the revival of dictator’s allies in politics.

The BNP organized the event at Ladies Club to honor distinguished citizens and professionals.
