Several organizations held protests at Dhaka University on Friday, demanding an immediate ban on the Awami League for its alleged involvement in the July genocide.
They also called for the withdrawal of Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus’ statement against banning the party.
The Bangladesh Democratic Students' Union began their march after Juma prayers from the central mosque.
At this time, protesters called for a ban on the Awami League and its election symbol, ‘boat.’ The procession moved through different parts of the campus before concluding with a rally in front of the central library.
At the same time, Inqilab Mancha held a separate protest against both the Awami League and the recent attacks by Israeli forces on Palestinians after violating the ceasefire agreement.
They started their march from the central mosque, urging resistance against the rehabilitation of the Awami League.
Later, at 3:30 pm, a group of students under the banner of "General Students of Dhaka University" also held a protest near the Raju Sculpture.
They gathered near Ziaur Rahman Hall and marched through several halls before reaching TSC, chanting slogans for the Awami League’s ban.
During the protest, Zahid Ahsan, central member secretary of the Democratic Students' Union, said that politics in Bangladesh must not involve the Awami League or its symbol.
He said attempts to bring back the party in any form must be resisted to prevent genocide.
