Desire to reinstate AL is dangerous: Asif Mahmud

Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Youth and Sports and Labour and Employment ministries, reffering July-August incident as genocide said that the desire to bring back the Awami League into politics is dangerous.

He made the remark through a Facebook post on Friday (March 21) afternoon.

In a Facebook post, he questioned, “Since when did Bangladesh become more inclusive and democratic than Germany and Italy?” He added that with less than a year since the genocide, the desire to bring back the Awami League is dangerous.

Asif Mahmud’s reaction came after a post by National Citizens’ Party (NCP) South Region’s chief organizer, Hasnat Abdullah, went viral on social media Thursday night.

In the post, Hasnat alleged that a plan was underway to reinstate the Awami League in politics with India's support, involving Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, and Fazle Noor Taposh.

He further alleged that on March 11 at 2:30 pm, this plan was presented to him and two others from the cantonment, offering a seat-sharing agreement in exchange for their support.

According to him, multiple political parties had already been approached and some had conditionally agreed to rehabilitate the Awami League.
