Hasnat Abdullah, leader of the National Citizen Party, has alleged a secret plot to resurrect the Awami League under a new name, "Refined Awami League," with India's backing.
He made this claim through a Facebook post in the midnight today (March 21).
According to Hasnat, on March 11, a proposal was pitched to him and two others regarding bringing back of Awami League. The plan reportedly involved former Awami League leaders like Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.
Hasnat rejecting the proposal said that efforts should focus on prosecuting the Awami League rather than allowing its return.
He also claimed that after rejecting the offer, they were threatened and warned they would be held responsible for any crisis that followed.
Calling for public support, Hasnat warned that the Awami League's return would undo the achievements of the July uprising.
He strongly said, "If you attempt to reinstate the Awami League, it will have to be over our dead bodies."
He urged people to unite and stop the Awami League’s comeback, insisting that the party must be banned.
