A Dhaka court on Thursday acquitted BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar and six others in a bribery case.
The six others are -- Mia Nur Uddin Apu, Qazi Saleemul Huq Kamal, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir, Sadat Sobhan and Abu Sufian.
Judge Mohammad Abu Taher of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-3 passed the order in presence of two accused -- Saleemul Huq and Abu Sufian -- at the courtroom.
The case was filed with the city's Ramna Police Station on 4 October 2007, for allegedly exchanging bribes of Tk21 crore for dropping the name of Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir from the case lodged over the murder of the Bashundhara Group director Sabbir.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on 24 April 2008, filed the charge sheet against the eight including Tarique Rahman as the court on 14 July 2008, framed charges against them.
