Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is facing a media trial similar to the 1/11, alleged the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
He made the remark on Monday (March 17) while addressing an iftar gathering for nationalist online activists from London.
The event was held at a hotel in Dhaka and organized under the supervision of BNP’s publicity secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku.
A documentary on BNP’s 31-point vision was also presented.
Tarique Rahman said that as BNP gains stronger public support ahead of a possible fair and neutral election, efforts to put the party through a media trial are increasing.
He claimed that recent reports in some newspapers have misrepresented incidents involving BNP.
Tarique further alleged that certain groups conspiring against BNP, nationalism, and Bangladesh’s sovereignty are using media outlets to create a false narrative—just as they did during the 1/11 crisis.
He warned that a similar conspiracy is again emerging against the country’s democracy and nationalist forces.
Tarique Rahman reiterated BNP’s commitment to fair elections where people can freely cast their votes.
BNP’s acting chairman also urged the activists present in the event to continue their role in informing the public regarding party’s past efforts for establishing democracy in the country.
The event was presided over by Sultan Salauddin Tuku and attended by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, acting chairman’s adviser Dr. Mahdi Amin, Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, and various online activists.
