Salahuddin calls for stricter action on violence against women, kids

BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed on Saturday expressed concern over the growing violence against women and children in Bangladesh, urging the government to take stronger action to tackle the problem.

Speaking at an event titled "Indomitable Women, Invincible in Strength" organized by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) at Dhaka University’s TSC, he said the crucial role of women in the country's democratic and independence movements.

Salahuddin said the United Nations’ recognition of women’s contributions during the July Uprising, where many women and children were killed by gunfire. 

He also reiterated BNP's longstanding commitment to women's empowerment, referencing their 31-point reform plan aimed at boosting women’s participation in parliament and legal institutions.

The BNP leader said deep concern over the rise in violence against women and children, urging the government to take decisive measures to prevent further harm and protect Bangladesh's international reputation. He called on the interim government and law enforcement to investigate such incidents thoroughly and maintain law and order.

The event, held on International Women's Day, was attended by several prominent figures, including Dhaka University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Sayma Haque Bidisha and BNP's Begum Selima Rahman.
