Ex-MP MA Maleque remanded for 4 days in Ashulia killing case

A Dhaka court today placed former Member of Parliament (MP) from Dhaka-20 constituency, MA Maleque, on a four-day remand in connection with the murder of Riajul Islam during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tajul Islam Sohagh passed the order after police presented Maleque in court and requested a seven-day remand.

Maleque was arrested from the Mirpur area on the night of March 5.

Riajul Islam, 38, was shot while participating in an anti-discrimination rally on Nabinagar-Chandra Highway under Ashulia Police Station on August 5. He later died from his injuries at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital.

A case was filed in this regard on November 24.
