Former Awami League lawmaker and freedom fighter Md Aftab Uddin Sarkar was arrested early today at a relative's house in Rangpur's New Senpara area.
Aftab, who previously represented the Nilphamari-1 (Domar-Dimla) constituency, was arrested during a raid by the Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), led by Commissioner Md Majid Ali.
Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ataur Rahman confirmed the matter to the media.
Aftab, facing three cases related to firearms misuse, obstruction of student protests, assault, and attempted murder, was taken to the Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station for questioning.
Two of the cases were filed in Nilphamari, and one in Rangpur.
Police confirmed that Aftab will be presented before a Rangpur court later today.
