Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson's Advisory Council member Professor Dr. Shahida Rafique died at Ibne Sina Hospital in Dhanmondi in the capital on Sunday (March 2) morning. She was 77.
BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the news.
She is survived by her husband, BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, two sons, and numerous relatives and admirers.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock and grief over her death.
Earlier on Thursday, Prof. Shahida was injured after falling into a hole at the BNP’s extended meeting venue at the LD Hall of the National Parliament.
After receiving first aid, doctors advised that she be taken to the hospital for further treatment.
She was admitted to Ibne Sina Hospital in Dhanmondi.
Her condition worsened on Saturday morning when her blood pressure dropped significantly.
Doctors moved her to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she passed away at 7:30 AM.
