No place for pro-India-Pakistan politics in Bangladesh: Nahid

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convenor Md Nahid Islam has said that the conspiracy to weaken Bangladesh has been broken and that the country can no longer be divided.

He said that there will be no place for pro-India or pro-Pakistan politics in Bangladesh.

Nahid Islam made these remarks on Friday (February 28) at the party’s launch event at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka.

Nahid, who played a key role in the July uprising that led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, said they are focused on the future rather than past conflicts.

He recalled the slogan from the movement, “Tumi ke, ami ke, bikalpo bikalpo” (Who are you, who am I? The alternative, the alternative), emphasizing that their new political platform has emerged from that struggle.

Later, he read out the party’s manifesto.

Earlier, Mim Akter, sister of July uprising martyr Muhammad Ismail Hossain Rabbi, announced Nahid Islam as convenor and Akhtar Hossain as the party’s member secretary.

Akhtar later announced the partial committee of the new party. Samanta Sharmin was named senior joint convenor, while Dr Tasnim Zara, Monira Sharmin, and Nahida Sarwar Niva were appointed senior joint member secretaries. Nasiruddin Patwari was named chief coordinator, Abdul Hannan Masud joint coordinator, Hasnat Abdullah chief organizer for the southern region, and Sarjis Alam chief organizer for the northern region.

The event began at around 4:15 pm with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by readings from the Bhagavad Gita, Tripitaka, and Bible. The national anthem was then played. A minute of silence was observed in memory of martyrs from the Liberation War, the July movement, and other democratic struggles.

Leaders from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and other political parties attended as invited guests, along with diplomats from various countries.
