The High Court has acquitted all 47 accused, including nine individuals sentenced to death, in the 1994 assassination attempt on the then-opposition leader and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ishwardi railway station.
The verdict was delivered today (February 5) by a High Court bench comprising Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam and Justice Hamidur Rahman.
The accused were represented by defense lawyers Kaiser Kamal and Md Maksud Ullah, while Deputy Attorney General Md Mujibur Rahman appeared for the state.
The case stems from the 1994 attack on Sheikh Hasina's train, where attackers fired shots and threw bombs near Ishwardi Railway Junction. In 2019, nine individuals were sentenced to death, 25 to life imprisonment, and 13 others received 10 years in prison.
However, the accused appealed for acquittal, claiming political motivations and flaws in the investigation. The High Court's acquittal comes after reviewing the death references and appeals.
