Dhaka, Bangladesh’s overcrowded capital, ranked seventh on the list of cities with the worst air quality, with an AQI score of 160 at 9 am on Friday, marking the air as 'unhealthy' and posing health risks to residents.
The city's air quality has been hazardous for several days, and the AQI index categorizes the air as unhealthy for sensitive groups when it falls between 101-150. Dhaka's air quality typically worsens in winter and improves during the monsoon season.
Other cities in the top rankings include Kuwait City, Yangon, and Lahore, with AQI scores of 390, 255, and 186, respectively. The AQI index monitors five pollutants: PM10, PM2.5, NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone.
Air pollution remains a serious health concern globally, with the World Health Organization estimating it causes seven million deaths each year.
