Twelve people, all of them from the same family, were killed on Monday (Jan 28) night in a road accident near Nagda Road in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh of India.
One person was badly injured.
The family were returning from a wedding in a van, which collided with another vehicle with such great impact that the van fell 50 feet away.
A photograph posted by a news agency showed the extent of the damage caused by the collision.
Five of those who died were immediate family members, and the seven others were their relatives.
The Amar Ujala newspaper says they all lived in Ujjain, and that the accident took place at around 12 pm.
"The road accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district is unfortunate. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their loved ones," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.
