DHAKA:   A Shillong court of India’s Meghalaya state acquitted BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed in a case filed for trespassing into Indian territory.

Confirming the matter to Banglanews, BNP Chairperson’s press wing member Shayrul Kabir Khan said: “Following announcement of the verdict, Salahuddin Ahmed himself phoned us. He also told us that he would be coming home soon.”

Salahuddin told the court that he was kidnapped from his Dhaka residence in March of 2015. Some unknown people left him in Shillong after about 2 months.

Shillong police under Meghalaya state filed the case for illegal intrusion on May 11 2015.   Salahuddin was hospitalized immediately after the arrest.

Salahuddin, 57, was APS of the then prime minister Khaleda Zia in 1991. He became Member of Parliament (MP) in 2001. He was also state minister for communication of the last Khaleda Zia-led BNP government.
