DHAKA: A man was killed in an explosion at an office of the Trinamool Congress in West Midnapore district on Thursday (August 23), the police said. 

Five others were injured in the blast at the office of Mamata Banerjee's party at the West Bengal district, 130 km from Kolkata.

The explosion happened at 10 am, the police said, quoting witnesses.

People familiar with the matter said it is not known whether a crude bomb or a gas cylinder inside had exploded at the TMC office.

Trinamool legislator Pradyut Ghosh said the cause of the explosion could not be ascertained till noon and the police are looking into it.
