Security forces gunned down 14 alleged members of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) in an encounter in Sukma district of India’s South Chhattisgarh on Monday (August 6).
The incident took place near Nukaltung area under Konta block of Sukma district at around 7 am local time. Sukma District Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena confirmed the incident.
South Sukma is considered a Maoist stronghold.
The security forces also managed to recover 16 weapons and four IEDs (Improvised Explosive Device) from the spot of the encounter.
The search operation is still going on in the area.
Chhattisgarh Special Director General of Police D.M.Awasthi will be addressing a press conference in Raipur shortly.
