Some 71 members of the parliament from the Opposition Benches in Rajya Sabha have initiated proceedings to impeach the Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, by submitting a notice to the Chairman, M Venkaiah Naidu.
They have demanded an impeachment motion against the Chief Justice here on Friday. The Opposition parties have attributed five charges against him, including abuse of power.
They have alleged that the charges against the Chief Justice are serious and unbecoming for the position of such constitutional importance.
They have demanded a thorough investigation into the charges against the CJI in Prasad Educational Institution case. The charges also include abuse of power as the master of roster with intent to intervene in the process.
Congress MP Kapil Sibal said the MPs have taken path to protect the Constitution and is bound to intervene as the legal delivery system faced serious crises. He added that they made such a move with a heavy heart. The notice also include several proofs for the alleged misconduct of Misra.
