The death toll has risen to 10 including 3 attackers, with 48 others injured, after the London terror attack in which three suspects were shot dead by police, reports BBC.

A white transit van ploughed into a crowd of people on the bridge at speed shortly after 10pm Saturday (June 3). The three men then attacked people with knives at nearby Borough Market.

Police said the three men were wearing fake bomb vests.

One of those hurt is a police officer who was stabbed after going to help. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Most political parties have suspended national general election campaigning in light of the attack, but UKIP leader Paul Nuttall said he would carry on because that was "precisely what extremists would want us to do".

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has chaired a meeting of the government's Cobra emergency committee and is expected to make a statement shortly.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick praised the "extraordinary bravery" of her officers, on and off duty, who risked their lives by rushing to confront the attackers.

Borough Market is an area known for its bars and restaurants which were busy on a warm summer evening.

Hours after the attacks began, a large area of central London remained cordoned off and police told people to avoid the area, leaving tourists and revelers struggling to get home.

Bursts of gunfire echoed through the streets - likely from armed police - and at least three blasts rang out as police performed controlled explosions.

One picture from the Borough Market area showed a man lying on the ground who appears to have canisters strapped to him.

Holly Jones, a BBC reporter at London Bridge when the first incident happened, said a van had swerved off the road into a crowd of pedestrians.

An eyewitness on London Bridge told the BBC he saw three men stabbing people indiscriminately, shouting "this is for Allah" in a "rampage".

Shortly before midnight police said they were attending a third incident in the Vauxhall area, but later said it was not connected.

It is the third terror attack in the UK in three months following the car and knife attack in Westminster in March, which left five people dead, and the Manchester bombing less than two weeks ago, in which 22 people were killed.
