Israel and Iran engaged in a night of heavy fighting, exchanging airstrikes that sent shockwaves across the region. 

The escalation follows Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and missile bases on Friday.

Ballistic missiles struck multiple locations in Israel overnight, triggering emergency alerts and sending residents rushing to shelters. 

At least two people were killed and dozens injured, local officials confirmed.

BBC correspondent Ione Wells, reporting from Jerusalem, described hearing a powerful explosion, with black smoke rising over Tel Aviv’s skyline as the conflict intensified.

Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that three Iranian military commanders were killed in its strikes. 

Tehran, in response, reported the deaths of six scientists in the attacks, further deepening hostilities.

Authorities in both nations have yet to issue official statements on potential diplomatic responses or ceasefire negotiations.
