The United Nations has warned of a severe shortage of medical supplies as rescue efforts continue in Myanmar, where a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake has killed over 1,600 people and left thousands injured.

The powerful quake struck on Friday, shaking large parts of Myanmar and neighboring countries. Bangkok, the Thai capital, also felt its impact, with a high-rise building under construction collapsing. Late on Saturday evening, rescuers recovered a 12th body from the rubble of the Bangkok site.

Despite the widespread destruction, there have been moments of hope. In Mandalay, a woman was pulled from the rubble alive after being trapped for 30 hours, raising hopes that more survivors could still be found.

However, aid groups warn that relief is struggling to reach the hardest-hit areas. An estimated 20 million people live in regions affected by the quake, with damaged roads, disrupted communication networks, and an ongoing civil war severely hampering search and rescue efforts.

The UN and humanitarian agencies have called for urgent international assistance to address the growing crisis.
