Bangladesh has reported three new dengue-related deaths in the past 24 hours, while 580 patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, according to a health bulletin issued on Sunday (Sept 7) by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the new hospitalisations, Barishal recorded the highest outside the city corporation areas with 128 cases, followed by 94 in Chattogram, 85 in Dhaka division outside city corporation limits, 85 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 80 in Dhaka South, 55 in Rajshahi, 32 in Khulna, 17 in Mymensingh, three in Rangpur, and one in Sylhet.
During the same period, 552 patients recovered and were discharged. In total, 32,705 patients have so far been released from hospitals this year.
As of September 7, 34,411 people have contracted dengue in 2025, with men making up 59.8% of cases and women 40.2%. This year’s death toll has now reached 135.
In 2024, dengue infected 101,214 people nationwide and killed 575. By contrast, 2023 was the deadliest year on record, with 1,705 fatalities and more than 321,000 hospitalisations.
