A total of 14,069 people have been hospitalised with dengue fever in Bangladesh so far this year, according to official figures released on Friday.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) shared the data in a press statement issued by its Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room. Of the patients admitted up to 11 July, 59.1 percent were men and 40.9 percent were women.
The statement said 12,744 dengue patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. In the past 24 hours alone, 137 new dengue cases were recorded across the country, though no new deaths occurred during this period.
Since January, 54 people have died from the mosquito-borne disease.
According to the DGHS, the latest hospital admissions in the past 24 hours included 60 patients in Barishal division (outside city corporation areas), 28 in Chattogram division (outside city corporations), 19 in Dhaka division (outside city corporations), one in Dhaka North City Corporation, 24 in Dhaka South City Corporation, three in Khulna division (outside city corporations) and three in Rajshahi division (outside city corporations).
The health authorities also shared data from previous years for comparison. From January to December 2024, a total of 101,214 people were infected with dengue, and 575 deaths were reported. In 2023, Bangladesh recorded 321,179 dengue cases and 1,705 deaths, marking the country’s highest annual toll from the disease.
Health officials have urged the public to remain alert, take preventive measures, and seek medical attention promptly if symptoms appear.
