Dengue: 429 hospitalised, cross 10,000 mark across Bangladesh

The number of dengue patients in Bangladesh has reached 10,296 this year, with 429 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, according to a health bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday.

No new deaths from the mosquito-borne disease were reported during the period. However, the total number of fatalities so far in 2024 remains at 42.

Of the newly diagnosed patients, 149 were reported from areas outside Barishal City Corporation, 57 from areas outside Chattogram City Corporation, 61 from outside Dhaka Division, 42 from Dhaka North City Corporation, 45 from Dhaka South City Corporation, 21 from outside Khulna City Corporation, and 54 from outside Rajshahi City Corporation.

A total of 358 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries this year has risen to 9,087.

Health authorities said that 59.1 percent of the total dengue cases reported so far this year were male, while 40.9 percent were female.

The DGHS also informed that since the beginning of 2024, 42 people have died of dengue, including one from Rajshahi Division. In comparison, Bangladesh saw a record outbreak in 2023, with 321,179 cases and 1,705 deaths. In 2022, there were 101,214 cases and 575 deaths.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert, especially during the monsoon season, and to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds to prevent further outbreaks.
