A polling officer at Dhaka University’s Curzon Hall was relieved of his duties on Tuesday (Sept 9) after mistakenly handing more than one ballot paper to a student during voting in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election.

The incident occurred at the Amar Ekushey Hall polling station on the second floor of Curzon Hall.

Authorities confirmed that the officer, Ziaur Rahman, was immediately dismissed from his election duties following the error.

In a statement, the university administration described the occurrence as an “unintentional mistake,” which the voter himself recognised at the time.

Officials said the matter was resolved promptly after the complaint was raised.

The administration emphasised that every step of the election is being closely monitored to ensure transparency and neutrality.

“We are maintaining the highest level of vigilance. Even in cases of minor, unintended incidents, swift action is being taken,” the statement added.

Voting in the DUCSU election began at 8:00 am across eight centres. Ballot boxes were sealed earlier in the morning in the presence of polling agents and journalists.
