JCD candidates take oath ahead of DUCSU polls

Candidates of the Abid-Hamim-Mayed panel, supported by the Bangladesh Jatiyotabadi Chatrodol (JCD), took their oath for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall council elections on Sunday (September 7).

The ceremony was held at the historic Banyan Tree near the Arts Building of Dhaka University.

Earlier, on Saturday (September 6), a notice issued and signed by Wasi Tami, office secretary of the Dhaka University unit of JCD, confirmed the event.

The notice said that JCD-supported candidates for DUCSU and hall councils would take their oath at 12 pm on Sunday under the initiative of the Abid-Hamim-Mayed panel.

The notice also called on all students and media personnel of Dhaka University to attend the programme.

JCD Dhaka University unit President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahosh and General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon extended a warm invitation for participation in the oath-taking ceremony.

Earlier, on August 20, JCD announced its 27-member panel for the upcoming DUCSU election, scheduled for September 9.

JCD Central President Rakibul Islam Rakib announced the panel at a press briefing held at the base of the Oporajeyo Bangla monument on the Dhaka University campus.

According to the line-up, Md Abidul Islam Khan has been nominated for Vice President (VP), Shaikh Tanveer Bari Hamim for General Secretary (GS), and Tanvir Al Hadi Mayed for Assistant General Secretary (AGS).

Other nominees include Ariful Islam for Liberation War and Democratic Movement Affairs Secretary, Ehsanul Islam for Science and Technology Secretary, Fariya Islam Meghla for Common Room, Reading Room and Cafeteria Secretary, Md Mehedi Hasan for International Affairs Secretary, Abu Hayat Md Zulfiqur Jesun for Literature and Culture Secretary, and Chim Chimya Chakma for Sports Secretary.

The post of Research and Publication Secretary has been kept vacant in honour of Sanjida Ahmed Tonni, a student injured on July 15 during the July Uprising.

For the remaining positions, Md Saif Ullah has been nominated for Transport Affairs Secretary, Syed Imam Hasan Anik for Social Service Secretary, Md Arkanul Islam Rupak for Career Development Secretary, Anwar Hossain for Health and Environment Secretary, and Md Mehedi Hasan Munna for Human Rights and Law Secretary.

The 13 other members of the panel are Md Zarif Rahman, Mahmudul Hasan, Nahid Hasan, Md Hasibur Rahman Sakib, Md Shamim Rana, Yasin Arafat Alif, Munim Hasan Arup, Ranjan Roy, Soyaib Islam Omi, Meherunnesa Keya, Ibnu Ahmed, Shamsul Haque Anan, and Nityananda.

With this announcement, JCD has set the stage for a competitive DUCSU election, bringing student politics back into the spotlight at Dhaka University, as other student organizations are not fielding any exclusive party-based panels.

Alongside this, JCD also revealed its panels for the hall union polls.
