Niaz Mahmud Noor-E-Rasheed, Assistant Director of Legal and Estate at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has won the Kali O Kalam Torun Kobi O Lekhok Puroshkar 2024 in the juvenile literature category for his book Tilkumarer Jatra.
The award function was held on July 26 at the Bengal Shilpalay, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. His children’s book Tilkumarer Jatra was published by Kakatua during the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2024. The ceremony, sponsored by City Bank Limited, recognized five emerging Bangladeshi writers under the age of 40 for their published works in five categories.
Each winner received BDT 2 lakh, a crest, and a certificate. Books submitted for consideration were reviewed by independent judges selected by Kali O Kalam, one of the leading literary magazines in Bangladesh.
Professor Emeritus Dr. Serajul Islam Choudhury attended the event as the Chief Guest and handed over the awards in the presence of Professor Emeritus Dr. Syed Manzoorul Islam, President of the Editorial Board of Kali O Kalam, City Bank Managing Director & CEO Mashrur Arefin, and Kali O Kalam publisher Abul Khair.
The other winners included Austrik Rreeshi (Shatitalay, poetry), Sazed Ul Hoq Abir (Nirbachito Debdut, fiction), Muhammod Farid Hasan (Shotoborshey Cha-Shramik Andolon: Deadline 20 May 1921, essay-research), and Swaralipi (Ekattore Oboruddho Diner Dusshahosh: Sagai Fort Escape, Liberation War and revolution).
This was the 17th iteration of the award, which was first introduced in 2008 by Kali O Kalam to support literary contributions from young poets and writers.
