Bangladesh and the United States have made partial progress in resolving tariff-related issues during the second round of bilateral talks, but several matters remain pending, officials confirmed on Saturday (12 July).
The three-day discussions concluded with both sides agreeing to continue inter-ministerial consultations before resuming formal dialogue.
A press release from the office of the Chief Advisor said the next phase of talks may be held either virtually or in person, with the date to be finalized soon.
The Bangladeshi delegation, led by Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin, is set to return home today.
National Security Advisor Dr Khalilur Rahman and Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor Faiz Tayyab joined the talks virtually from Dhaka. Several senior government officials and trade experts also participated.
Despite some unresolved issues, both Commerce Advisor Bashir Uddin and Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman expressed optimism about reaching a positive outcome within the expected timeframe.
The discussions were coordinated by the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, D.C., as part of ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral trade relations and address tariff and regulatory concerns.
